We read a very special book that taught us lots of information about Soldiers and their families during the 1st World War. The book was also very special to Astrid because it was written about her great, great Grandfather. The book was called Violet’s Scarf.

We learnt that George brought the scarf that his sister Violet had knitted back to New Zealand when he returned after the war. He kept the scarf safe throughout the war and that it was a very special link back to his family. This was the tag that was on the parcel with the scarf inside that Violet sent to the Soldiers. Amazingly out of all the parcels sent to the soldiers, Violet’s brother George received hers.

We also read the book called ANZAC Ted about a very special bear that travelled with a soldier to war.

We completed some art work for ANZAC day. Poppies on a plate. We sponged paint onto a paper plate and then we drew poppies on paper and painted them and glued these onto the plate. We painted our poppy stems. We think they look great.

It is important that we remember all the heroes of the wars in the past on ANZAC Day. Weka Iti thought that everyone involved was a hero. We have said that ‘we will remember them’. Our last piece of art work for ANZAC Day shows our promise.
