T Shirts by Weka Iti

One of our big books for a week was called ‘T Shirts’ written by Estelle Corney. We really enjoyed this book and the different words each of the family members had on their coloured t-shirts.

So, as a class we decided to create our own T-Shirts book which was written by and illustrated by Weka Iti. We enjoyed beginning the book by painting our own t shirt in a colour of our choice. Check out our version of our own T-Shirts book.

And here we are reading our story to you……

Mrs Wishy Washy

We are learning to retell a story in the correct order. We read the story Mrs Wish Washy. We all really enjoyed this story.

We talked about the characters in the story and what happened at the beginning of the story, what happened next and what happened at the end of the story. We then made stick puppets of the characters and the other things that were in the story, like the mud, the soap and the tub.

In groups we retold the story using our stick puppets.

We did a great job at retelling the story in the correct order and trying hard to use expression when the characters in the story were talking. Tino pai Weka Iti, what a super effort for your 1st time at doing this.

In loving memory of Tussock!!

Tussock was a pet therapy Border Collie that came to our school every Monday. When Tussock came to our class the first thing she would do would be eat the crumbs we had left on the floor after we had had our snack. Then she would wander around the class letting anyone pat her who wanted to. Tussock liked listening to us read our stories to her and sometimes she was just too tired and would lie down for a rest.
We really loved it when Tussock and her owner Jane came to visit. Thanks Jane and Tussock for making lovely memories for us to cherish. We are really going to miss you Tussock xxx.

Greedy Cat

We read Greedy Cat by Joy Cowley as our big book. We really enjoyed listening to the story and by the end of the week we were able to read the story to Mrs Scott and Jackie.

We wrote stories about what we would like Mum to buy for the shopping bag if we were Greedy Cat.

We then had a competition to see who could fit the most items in their shopping bag. We had a criteria that we had to follow.

We all tried really hard. This was the sheet we filled in to show how many items we had in our shopping bag.

Here are the 3 winners with their winning shopping bags. Rylan was 1st, Darley was 2nd and Loken was 3rd. We took photos of how we counted all the items.

This is all of us with our super shopping bags and our shopping bags displayed on our class wall. Super job Weka Iti.

We were authors and illustrators

We wrote books about ourselves so that others could learn and know more about us and we could learn more about each other. We were authors because we wrote the book ourselves and we were also illustrators because we drew the picture for each page. Once we had written and illustrated our book it was bound. We really enjoy sharing our books with each other and to others who visit our learning space. Lexi really enjoyed drawing the pictures, Darley liked colouring in the pictures and Astrid liked writing each page. Our teacher said she loves reading them and she has also learnt lots about us.

We decided we would share our favourite page.

We got to meet Tussock and Jane

On Monday Tussock came to our learning space to visit. Tussock is a pet therapy dog and Jane is her owner. We thought she was a lovely dog and she listened really well to our reading. We took some photos of Lexi, Loken and Awa reading to Tussock. Jane and Tussock are coming to visit our school every Monday. We are looking really forward to having them back.  Next time Tussock may want to listen to our super writing.
