Dressing up to celebrate our Matific effort

Today is Friday. We dressed up as Matific monsters because we have completed the Matific competion. As a school we got 2nd place. All of us earned our 150 stars.

We also received our certificates to show that we had earned our Ruby certificates for completing 150 stars. We were all very proud of our effort.

Lachlan is a dinosaur and Loken is a dinosaur dracula. Franklin dressed as Medusa who has a head full of snakes.

Jackson is a monster. Peyton and Kaysha are princesses. Maisie is a mermaid. Astrid is a skeleton robot and Darley, Rylan and Rylan all chose to wear mufti.

At lunch time we had a sausage in bread. It was yummy!

The Matific Competition

In Week 3 our school took part in the Matific Competition. We competed between schools across New Zealand and schools in Australia. Our goal was to each earn 150 stars during the 5 days that the competition was held for. Each class in our school had the same goal. We used the Matific app on our iPads. There was also a focus on accuracy.

We all worked so hard during the week to earn all our stars. Check out the hard work we were doing.

Lachlan said “I like doing Matific because I liked the spaceship one when we took off.”
Flynn said “I like doing the rocket activity on Matific. The monsters were eating cherries.”
Maisie said “I have been doing Matific on my iPad. I loved the treasure chest activity.”
Franklin said “I like the spaceship one because I like the controls.”
Astrid said “I went on Matific and I went on the acrobats. It was my favourite activity. I got 150 stars. I felt good.”
Rylan and Jackson said “This week we have been working on Matific. We all enjoy doing it.” Rylan liked the acrobatic one.
Peyton said “I like drawing the numbers on Matific.”
Loken said “I like doing Matific and I got 150 stars. I was happy. My favourite thing was the one when I had to put the toys on the shelf.”
Rylan said “This week I have been doing Matific. My favourite activity was counting the fish. I am happy on Matific.”
Darley said “This week I got 150 stars on Matific. I helped people with their Matific. I felt happy because I like helping people.”

Everyone in the class completed their 150 stars. Mrs Scott was so proud of us all. Even Kaysha and Ollie who were sick at home completed their stars too. Every one in our whole school achieved their 150 stars. What an awesome effort Kaniere School.

We are practising writing our numbers

Learning to write the numbers can be a tricky process. Not only do we need to know what the number looks like we also need to remember which way the number faces. We are learning that we just need to keep practising and the more we practise the easier it will get. We also learnt that once we can write the numbers from 0-9 we can write any number we want, no matter how big it is.

We’ve been learning to skip count in 2’s

We have been learning how to skip count in 2’s. We made the pattern on the hundreds board skip counting in 2’s.

We then decided we wanted to make a resource that we could use at any time to practise our skip counting. We chose to use our feet. We got our feet painted in green paint and then we stood on some white paper to leave our foot prints.

After we had left our foot prints, we needed to get the paint off so it didn’t get all over the carpet in our classroom. We got to sit on a chair with our feet in warm soapy water. We thought it was really relaxing and some of us didn’t want to take our feet out.

Here we are holding on to our feet. We can put them in order when we skip count in 2’s or step on the next one in the correct pattern if they are on the floor.

Skip counting in 2’s sure was lots of fun.

Greedy Cat

We read Greedy Cat by Joy Cowley as our big book. We really enjoyed listening to the story and by the end of the week we were able to read the story to Mrs Scott and Jackie.

We wrote stories about what we would like Mum to buy for the shopping bag if we were Greedy Cat.

We then had a competition to see who could fit the most items in their shopping bag. We had a criteria that we had to follow.

We all tried really hard. This was the sheet we filled in to show how many items we had in our shopping bag.

Here are the 3 winners with their winning shopping bags. Rylan was 1st, Darley was 2nd and Loken was 3rd. We took photos of how we counted all the items.

This is all of us with our super shopping bags and our shopping bags displayed on our class wall. Super job Weka Iti.
